About Education Day
NC SGMP attendees who participate in Education Day will receive a certificate of completion of the Meeting and Event Planning course from George Washington University, as well as CEU's for 6.5 total hours, which can be used towards applying for the CGMP and CMP exams.
Virtually every organization, from trade associations to government agencies, regularly holds large and small meetings. This course provides the basic tools to successfully plan and manage local, national and international meetings and conferences. Course information covers the basic competencies tested in the ISES Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) examinations.
Participants learn how to:
- Conduct thorough pre-event planning
- Identify an appropriate site and perform comprehensive site inspections
- Develop, analyze and project a budget
- Implement marketing strategies, including list development, brochure design, mailing cost reduction, and creative marketing
- Comply with legal requirements, including those specified by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other key laws
- Recruit and train volunteers and staff for maximum performance
- Evaluate the effectiveness of an event
George Washington University's Event Management Certificate Program:
The Event Management Certificate Program is the founding member of the International Consortium of Event Management Programs. This standardized curriculum is offered throughout the world and is the first comprehensive program in higher education providing classroom and distance learning courses leading to industry certification in special events. The program is designed to meet your needs, whether you enroll for one course or earn your Professional Certificate in Event Management.
Courses in the Event Management Program are taught by a faculty that comprises over 300 years of experience in event management. Instructors include managers of major event marketing projects and centers, experts in the Olympic Games movement, owners and presidents of corporate event management firms and associations, and experts in event marketing and sponsorship. The knowledge and skills that one gains from program participation are useful to both beginning and experienced event management professionals and to volunteers in special event activities.
