Speaker Biography Charles S. Sadler CGMP, CHSP, CHSC
Executive Director and CEO, Society of Government Meeting Professionals Charles has been SGMP’s Executive Director since September 2008 after serving as the Deputy Director for 3 ½ years. Prior to coming to SGMP he spent 24 years in the hospitality industry as a Director of Sales & Marketing with Hyatt, IHG and Starwood Hotels. Charles has deep roots with SGMP being a former national board member and an active chapter leader. He joined SGMP in 1987. He has held several different positions on the SGMP National Board while a member: As a member of SGMP Charles has been with the Old Dominion Chapter since 1987 and served as the chapters Supplier Director and 2nd Vice President. As chair of the Old Dominion Program & Education Committee, Charles had created 4 education programs that had received an unprecedented Program of the Year Award, Four (4) years in a row at SGMP's Annual Education Conference for his chapter. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Charles resides in Richmond, Virginia, since graduating from the College of William & Mary in 1980 with a BA in history where he was provided a full four year basketball athletic scholarship. Hospitality Industry Positions Held & Other Professional Endeavors Charles has received many awards and recognition for his work and volunteerism over the years, these include; -The 2002 Sam Gilmer Supplier of the Year (SGMP’s highest member award) -Old Dominion Chapter SGMP, Supplier of the Year 4 years in a row 1995, 1996, 1997 & 1998 (SGMP) -Commonwealth of Virginia Outstanding Citizenship Award 1997 for volunteer work with Virginia’s Native American Tribes (Governors Office Commonwealth of Virginia) -Hyatt Sales Person of the Year 1984 (Hyatt Hotels & Resorts) -Arthur Ashe Hero Award in 1998 and 1999 for mentoring elementary school children (Arthur Ashe Hero Foundation) Favorite way to spend time…relax at home, gardening, entertaining and international travel. Charles is a loyal patron of President & General George Washington and has studied him as his leadership role model for over 32 years. Charles also has a collection of over 130 books about Washington, as well as being an avid collector of George Washington memorabilia. |
